Alpine pastures, ancient crafts, economy

The Ecomuseum must not only look to the past, but, through awareness of its roots, it must promote social, cultural and also economic development of its community.

So even ancient crafts must be known to be renewed through the use of new technologies and new marketing strategies, in order to counteract the abandonment of the mountains.

The crafts of the past are still largely practiced and are a living part of the immaterial culture of the place, first of all breeding and milk processing.
The season in the mountain pastures is a ritual that has been repeated for centuries: there are many mountain pastures in the valley, including Alpe Piazza, with a refuge that can accommodate hikers.

Milk and dairy products were at the heart of the diet of the valley’s inhabitants; added to these were chestnuts, grains (especially wheat, rye, and buckwheat) and cultivated vegetables, as well as meat and sausages obtained from pork.

Even the care and cutting of woods, still practiced, has always been of great interest for the Albaredo valley.
